Pittsburg County Health Department Released November, 2008
The New Pittsburg County Health Department Building was an Oklahoma Centennial project and was designed to be a state of the art facility. The challenge of this project was to use technology to improve security and communications between the state health department offices state wide.
Because of the vast array of different functional requirements, multiple manufacturers’ products were used on this project. This allowed York to design and customize a solution to fit the client’s specific needs.
The facility houses traditional security and video solutions with one exception. Through the use of the network communications, both access control and video surveillance can be controlled and viewed remotely.
A state of the art conference facility, equipped with a video projection system, is used for training of local staff and the community. The conference facility also holds a video conference system connected to the internet giving the capability to broadcast and communicate audio and video anywhere in the world. This equates to a reduced cost for The State of Oklahoma when travel is required for meetings or training. Additionally, the conference system provides a vital communication tool in the event of a State or National emergency.
This much technology installed in one conference room can be cumbersome to operate to say the least. Through the use of a wireless touch screen control system, all media systems are integrated allowing the presenter to easily operate all devices from anywhere in the room while the equipment is securely stored away in a closet.
Although construction on the facility was over a year’s time, York was able to maintain efficient communications with the owner, General Contractor, Architect and associated subcontractors through the use of weekly project reports and/or participating in job site meetings. Throughout the project, York conducted regular tool box talks and there were no reported job related accidents or injuries.
Pittsburg County Health Department is representative of how technology and integration can improve the functionality of a business through improved communications and reduced costs.
