York Wins Big With Bordertown Casino

In 2008, York Electronic Systems, Inc. (York) received Associated Builders and Contractor’s Excellence in Construction Award for Bordertown Bingo and Casino Surveillance System Retrofit. The client had an existing surveillance operation that consisted of more than 300 cameras with 4 operator workstations operating in a 24x7 environment. After experiencing multiple system failures and downtime, Bordertown set forth an initiative to update their existing system and select a new solution provider. After a 6 month evaluation period, that included product demonstrations, reference submissions and proposals, York was selected as the new solutions provider.

The project was particularly challenging because York was required to relocate the existing cabling infrastructure, re-work and manage existing cabling and run both existing and new video surveillance recording and controls simultaneously. The existing cabling infrastructure was in disrepair which not only made the relocation extremely difficult, but also created additional repairs caused by outages occurring during relocation. Additionally, York was required to work very difficult schedules to avoid interruption to gaming activities.

The final result was a conversion from legacy digital video recorders to a state of the art enterprise level network video management system based on IBM Blade Server technology and DataCom Systems video compression technology with DataCom’s ION software.

Upon completion of the project, the client was amazed at the results. Not only did the solution work well and exceed their expectations, it improved their productivity. One shift manager commented “the mood in the room is so much better…This system makes it a better place to work.” With quality equipment, resources and project management, York was able to transform the surveillance operation from a daily nuisance to a productivity tool.
